On June 5th, together with Lamu Environment Foundation, we were fortunate to be able to assist a hatching turtle nest and spend the day collecting and sorting marine litter at Kiwayu beach in honor of World Environment Day. The cleanup resulted in the collection of 1.46 tonnes of plastic waste and an additional 300 kilograms of plastic collected from the ongoing village clean-ups.
A total of 106 turtles hatched and made their way to the ocean on a beach clear of plastic. Turtles are just one species dependent on a clean environment for their survival.
It was great to host and work with Lamu Environment Foundation and we look forward to future collaborations
